    Spring Show 2006

MHHS Spring Show – 21 March

This year’s Spring Show started off very slowly and two days before the show we had only three members entered.  But things progressed and by the time the judges came to do their business we had received sixteen member’s entry money and over      entries. The show had practically no daffodils at all but not surprising considering the weather, but people had looked around their homes and gardens and come up with beautiful flowering alpines, bulbs, pot plants and cacti and we were very pleased with such a splendid turn out.  The judge Mr Jim Abbott was very complimentary and so was Mrs Nolan our domestic judge. Several last minute entries to this class (some even still hot!) made the judging more difficult with seven entries into the Welsh Lemon cake class.  The judge said the Cheese straws made by Karen Hutchings were outstanding and Karen won the Best Exhibit in domestic and was awarded the Lawrence Welsh Perpetual Memorial Cup.  Congratulations to all the winners also including Liz Dunkin who won the Basil Frost Cup, Michael Shrimpton who won the Charter trustees Cup, Len Wakeing who won the Hilary Rose bowl and Pam Dorrington who won the John Robson memorial cup.

The evening also involved a “Fun Quiz” (while the judging was taking place) and this was won by Glenys Hopkins.  Len Wakeling, our president and member of the Maldon in Bloom competition gave an interesting and informative talk on the competition and how it operates.  The evening was rounded off with tea and biscuits, the prize giving and regular raffle.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the evening and made it go with a swing!  Especially all those members who helped in the afternoon to set the show up and finish in the evening.
